Author agreement

The agreement between you and us when we publish your books. You accept it when you apply, and it starts when we approve your account.

Version 1.0 · last updated 23 October 2026

1. The parties

This agreement is between T101 Group Ltd, trading as Fable & Frontier Publishing (“we”, “us”), and the person who applies for an author account (“you”). Fable & Frontier Publishing is a trading name of T101 Group Ltd.

2. What we do

  • Publish your books in print under the Fable & Frontier Publishing imprint and sell them on our website, your author pages, and to bookshops.
  • Assign ISBNs from our publisher blocks and register each title with Nielsen.
  • List your titles with wholesalers such as Gardners and IngramSpark so bookshops and libraries can order them.
  • Arrange printing through our print partner, take payment, deliver orders, and handle customer service.
  • Keep a royalty ledger you can see at any time, and send monthly statements.

3. Your rights in your work

You keep the copyright in your books, covers you own, and your profile content. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to reproduce, print, sell and distribute the editions you publish with us, and to use your name, profile, cover and extracts to promote them, for as long as this agreement lasts.

You confirm that you own or have permission to use everything you send us, including text, cover art, fonts and photos, and that publishing it will not infringe anyone's rights.

4. ISBNs

Each format of each title needs its own ISBN. We charge £20 per ISBN, which covers assigning the number and completing the title's Nielsen listing. ISBNs stay registered to us as publisher, may only be used for editions published with us, and are retired if the title is withdrawn.

5. Royalties

You receive 70% of net revenue on every sale and we keep 30%. Net revenue is the price we actually receive for a copy, less card processing fees, less the print cost of that copy. Printed books are zero-rated for VAT, so no VAT is deducted from book sales.

  • Print cost. Each statement line shows print cost as either paid by author (you paid for the print run in advance) or deducted (we paid the printer from that sale). Where you have already paid, the print-cost part of the sale is passed back to you on top of your share, so you never pay for printing twice.
  • Bookshop sales are at our trade price (40% off the cover price), split the same way.
  • Wholesaler sales arrive net of the wholesaler's discount and print cost, and are split the same way.
  • Returns. A returned copy reverses the original line. The restocking fee we keep from the bookshop is revenue and split the same way, and the copy goes back into your stock.
  • Damaged copies may be sold at a reduced price in our Warehouse section. They remain your stock and each sale is split the same way.
  • Unpaid bookshop invoices. If a bookshop never pays for books it ordered, we absorb that loss. You are not charged for it.

6. Statements and payment

We send a statement every month, two months in arrears: sales in January are paid at the end of March. Every sale, return and deduction appears as its own line. We pay your whole balance by bank transfer, with no minimum. Tell us within 60 days if you think a statement is wrong and we will check it with you.

7. Your author profile

You write and manage your own profile: name or pen names, biography, photo and links. Changes go live as soon as you save them. We keep a history of every change and are notified of each one. You may run several pen names from one account, and a book may credit more than one author.

8. Content policy

Your books' listings, your profile, and anything else you publish through us must not include:

  • anything defamatory about any person or organisation, including Fable & Frontier Publishing;
  • nudity or sexual content in profiles, photos or listings;
  • anything illegal, or instructions that could cause harm or help someone break the law;
  • hate speech, harassment or threats;
  • impersonation of another person or author;
  • photos or images you do not have the rights to use;
  • links to harmful, illegal or adult websites.

We may edit, hide or remove content that breaks this policy, straight away if needed.

9. Warnings and ending the agreement for breaches

  • Each breach of the content policy or this agreement earns a written warning, recorded on your account with the date, reason and evidence.
  • A third warning ends this agreement.
  • A serious breach, such as illegal content, plagiarism, or defamation that exposes us to a claim, ends it immediately.

10. Indemnity

You will cover losses, damages and reasonable costs (including legal costs) we incur because of content you supplied, or because you broke the promises in section 3 or the content policy. We may deduct those amounts from royalties owed to you, and will show each deduction on your statement.

11. Ending the agreement

Either of us may end this agreement by giving 30 days' written notice, or immediately as set out in section 9. When it ends:

  • your books are removed from sale straight away;
  • we pay all royalties earned up to that date, less any deductions under section 10 — you never forfeit royalties already earned;
  • you collect any of your stock we hold, or pay for its delivery, within 30 days, after which we may charge for storage and dispose of it;
  • the ISBNs we assigned stay with us and are retired.

12. Your information

We handle your personal information as described in our privacy policy.

13. General

  • We may update this agreement. We will give you at least 30 days' notice of changes that affect your royalties; you may end the agreement before they take effect.
  • Nothing in this agreement makes either of us the other's employee, partner or agent.
  • This agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts deal with any dispute.
